SYNOPSIS

This ia an investigative documentary film on the subject called ‘Honour Killing’, a terrible social injustice being regularly performed in India even in these advanced days in the name of traditional social justice. The subject mainly deals with the ordeal of disallowing women’s basic right to choose their own way of life in the choice of partners for marriage, which is guaranteed under Indian constitution. Caste dictatorship debars women to exercise their choice of life partners and forces them to follow caste based feudal rules set by self proclaimed caste leaders. Those who violate such dictates (fataws) are punished in the form of killing by their own community men and even by their own parents. The central of such violence is the subordinate position of the women and girls in all castes and community. The forms of violence differs ranging from public lynching and murders to rape. In some of cases victims faces are blackened or heads shaved off. Some are forced to eat excreta or drink urine, while others face social boycott. It is difficult for even a little educated man to believe and accept that such autocracies are still being performed in India on a regular basis. It is shivering to think even that such women, who are economically weak and socially unsupported, are literally getting killed almost on a regular basis and being glorified by the community as ‘Honour killing’. Actually, Women are viewed by society as the property of the family, the caste and the community. A woman’s chastity is the ‘honour’ of the community and she has no sovereign right over her body at any point of her life. No matter how one defines the subject, it is a gross violation of human rights, extreme criminal offence and blatant violation of Indian constitution, which guarantees adults right to choose their own life partners. Society and Government in general is fully responsible for not being able to stop such shivering act. It is a matter of shame that media still now has completely failed to bring the subject to light.
